Carnival Bentham 2018

Carnival Bentham this year was celebrating 100 years of suffrage so were encouraging a purple, white and green theme for the costumes and umbrella decoration.

I decided to keep it bold and simple with a purple, white and green Edwardian costume and a “VOTES FOR WOMEN” umbrella in the same colours.  I had been wanting to have a go at the tissue paper and PVA on the inside of a clear umbrella technique for some time and I think it works quite well.  It has a bit of an art nouveau/tiffany lamp look about it that I was quite pleased with.

We bumped into the Fairly Famous Family doing their Kitsch Kafe act and Rough Magic Theatre’s Tim Austin was given a 60s makeover for the selfies above.

We had a really great time and enjoyed the hand made traditional fairground games (e.g. splat the rat, wheel of fortune etc.) that were created specially for this year.

Many thanks to Peter Swan for the photo’s of the parade, (
